string(2488) "Recently my team mates and I had the good fortune of winning the Division 4 tennis final within the Western Districts Tennis Association here in Adelaide.  It was a tight season, but we got the result we set out to achieve!

Back in September 2013 we had to start planning our senior teams for each division, we had over 80 players to slot into teams based on their skills and ability.  There was a lot of head scratching but we managed to create 16 senior teams to represent our Henley South Tennis Club.

I had recently been appointed Senior Team Captain for the 2013/2014 season which meant I was responsible for ensuring every team had their full allocation of players each week, throughout the year.  So it was in my best interest that we planned the teams in a way that would allow for flexibility….I had been warned about the hurdles I would face, after all I was dealing with people!

From week 1 we were chopping and changing people around to help the individual Team Captains produce a team each way.  On rare occasions it was smooth sailing but more often than not, it was a major headache. It became clear that we had been over ambitious in submitting 16 teams.

As the weeks came and went we always seemed to manage, and more often than not, I was also calling on others for support and guidance regarding substitute players, skill levels, and where the district would permit them to play. I must make a special mention that without the support of others I would have failed miserably.

The Christmas summer break came and went in a flash, and as we approached the end of season we predicted that the Club would have 7 senior teams performing in the final play-offs – a great result!

For the Finals, once again we had to review and verify our team selections and individual player order to the WDTA District President, thankfully all was approved.

The Finals were great with neighbouring Clubs battling it out on court, some old rivals going toe to toe.  In the end after all the blood, sweat and tears, 3 of our Teams won and brought the honours home to Henley South Tennis Club!

For me personally, the highs far outweighed the lows, and the sense of achievement gained for myself, my team mates, and the Club is second to none!

No matter what jobs or projects we take on in life, the journey is always made so much easier by simply sharing the load with others.
