As a young person looking to start my professional career, I confess that I had no definitive vision of where I saw myself. With a postgraduate degree in the Fine Arts, I had already begun a career as an artist. This has morphed into what I knew would be a life-long love affair, but I wanted something more. I wanted work to seek my teeth into. I wanted to test my capabilities.

When I became a Cox Purtell candidate, I was completely open to any situation that might come my way. I knew I wanted to commit myself to something, but a specific role or industry wasn’t something that had crossed my mind.

I had never seriously considered the legal profession, and yet, when suggested by my consultant I found it extremely attractive.

I do not have a background in law. In fact, my closest qualification would be a Certificate in micro-business operations. And yet, somehow, two weeks into my new role I knew I had found the one.

Five months in and I’m bringing thick texts of legislation home, poring over acts and scribbling down notes as if it were a tantalising book of recipes. I’m hooked, and everyday, I thank the open-mindedness that lead me to where I am supposed to be going.

Are you wanting something more in your life or career? Be bold. Take the plunge and try something new because you never know, you can find your calling in the most unlikely of places!
