About the client
Our client is a well-known Australian tourism group operating a portfolio of iconic destinations and they are looking for an Assistant Accountant, working alongside a Senior Financial Accountant to manage the accounting for operations across multiple business units.
You will play a hands-on role in month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and regulatory reporting, while gaining exposure to the billing and journal processes that support day-to-day operations. It is a role that rewards accuracy, curiosity and a genuine interest in process improvement, and offers real variety across systems, sites and stakeholders. For someone looking to build a well-rounded accounting career in a values-driven environment, this role offers plenty of scope to grow.
Duties
- Prepare and process month-end journals, accruals and prepayments to support timely and accurate financial closing.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to maintain the integrity of financial results.
- Complete monthly and annual regulatory reporting requirements, including BAS and FBT returns.
- Process monthly billing, charges, journals and credits associated with tour operators.
- Provide support for internal and external audits, including statutory reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Prior experience working as an Assistant Accountant.
- CA/CPA qualified or actively working towards completion.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, with the ability to use them for data analysis and process improvement.
- Comfortable working across multiple IT systems and a fast learner when picking up new ones.
- A process and deadline-driven mindset, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- A keen eye for detail with the ability to identify trends and anomalies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Business Central, Opera PMS, Shiji POS or Purchase Plus is well regarded but not essential.
- A background in hospitality operations is well regarded but not essential.
