Commercial/Contracts Manager – Design & Architecture
Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane
Permanent Full-time role
Salary package $190-220k
We’re partnering with a leading design and architecture practice delivering some of Australia’s most high-profile and complex projects. With studios across the country and expertise spanning Education, Public, Commercial, Residential, Transport, Defence, Health, Heritage, and more — this is a practice that shapes how people live, work, and connect.
About the Role
As Commercial Manager, you’ll sit at the heart of project delivery — supporting teams across multiple studios to ensure contracts are commercially sound, risks are minimised, and projects remain profitable from bid to completion. You’ll play a key role in driving commercial performance and process improvement across the business.
You will:
-
Lead and negotiate client and sub-consultant agreements
-
Support project teams in interpreting contract terms, managing variations, and resolving disputes
-
Work with Principals and Project Leaders on scope, program alignment, and cost control
-
Guide bid submissions and project plans alongside business development teams
-
Enhance contract management systems and commercial processes
-
Provide training and guidance on commercial best practice across the studios
About You
You’re commercially sharp, confident in your communication, and comfortable influencing senior stakeholders. You know your way around contracts and risk, but you’re equally interested in making systems better and helping project teams succeed.
You’ll bring:
-
5+ year's experience in a Commercial Manager (or similar) role within architecture, engineering, or construction
-
Experience managing complex, multi-sector projects
-
Strong negotiation and contract management skills
-
Knowledge of contract documentation, scopes, progress claims, and variations
-
A degree in project management, law, engineering, construction, or a related field
-
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines
If you’re looking for a commercially strategic role with impact — one that combines challenge, variety, and the opportunity to shape how Australia’s most exciting design projects are delivered — we’d love to hear from you.
