About the company
This organisation is one of Australia’s most forward-thinking local councils, delivering civic services that impact millions. Based in central Sydney, their Digital & Technology team is on a mission to reimagine how government interfaces with the public—through thoughtful design, inclusive user journeys, and scalable systems. It’s a design-conscious environment where your work genuinely improves lives.
About the role
We’re seeking a Digital Product Specialist to lead the design of accessible, user-first digital experiences across a suite of public-facing platforms. From digitising council services to major site redesigns, you’ll work end-to-end—from discovery to high-fidelity UI—and play a key role in evolving the internal design system. This role blends creative leadership with technical precision and public impact.
Key responsibilities:
- Drive product design across multiple concurrent digital initiatives
- Conduct user research, co-design workshops and journey mapping
- Produce elegant wireframes, flows, prototypes and polished UI
- Partner closely with developers, product managers and stakeholders
- Maintain and grow the organisation’s evolving design system
About you
You’re a seasoned digital designer with a sharp eye and a systems mindset. You’ve worked across agency and in-house settings, thrive in environments where design feedback is rigorous, and are comfortable jumping into complex projects with minimal hand-holding. You care about accessibility, craft, and creating digital experiences that make a real-world difference.
Essential criteria:
- 6+ years of digital product design experience
- Portfolio demonstrating responsive, user-centred, accessible design
- Strong in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and collaboration tools like JIRA
- Skilled at taking constructive feedback and presenting design rationale
- Design system experience (contributing, scaling or maintaining)
- Familiar with WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards
- Relevant tertiary qualification in digital design, HCI or similar
