ICT Operations and Business Manager (Contract)
- Run day-to-day ICT at a major Sydney cultural institution
- Broad remit: service, vendors, budgets, risk and procurement
- 6-month NSW Government contract, ASAP start
- Up to $815 + Super p/day
About the client
Our client is one of Australia's longest-established cultural and scientific institutions, based in the Sydney CBD and operating within the NSW Government. It cares for one of the country's most significant natural history and cultural collections, and delivers exhibitions, research and education programs onsite, online and across the community. Its ICT team provides level 2 and 3 support across the organisation, underpinning collection management and document management systems, a managed Virtual Private Cloud environment and an active program of cyber and digitisation work.
About the role
This is a 6-month contract for an experienced ICT operations manager to run the operational and business side of the ICT function, reporting to the Head of ICT. You will keep ICT services running, planned, governed and accountable, so the Head of ICT can focus on direction and approvals. You will lead the team day to day, manage vendors and shared services, and look after budgets, risk, compliance and procurement within NSW public-sector frameworks. Where a decision needs delegation, you will prepare the advice and recommendation for the Head of ICT to approve.
Duties
- Manage the day-to-day delivery of ICT services, including service assurance, availability, support and maintenance, keeping level 2 and 3 support on track against agreed service levels.
- Plan and prioritise the ICT team's work, lead and coordinate staff, and hold coaching and performance conversations, recommending people decisions to the Head of ICT.
- Manage suppliers, managed service providers and shared-service arrangements, monitoring contract performance and resolving service issues.
- Track ICT budgets and expenditure, produce operational and financial reporting, and prepare papers and actions for the ICT and Cyber Security Governance Committee.
- Maintain ICT risk registers, support compliance with NSW Government cyber security and records obligations, and run ICT procurement in line with NSW procurement rules and whole-of-government arrangements.
Requirements
- Demonstrated NSW or Australian Government experience in an ICT operations or ICT business management role, including working within public-sector accountability, decision-making and assurance processes and whole-of-government arrangements.
- A proven track record as a general ICT operations manager across service delivery, work planning and team coordination.
- People management experience with ICT staff, including coaching and performance conversations.
- Hands-on experience managing vendors, managed service providers or shared services against contracts and service levels.
- Experience with ICT budget tracking and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of ICT risk, compliance, governance, government procurement and cyber security good practice.
- Comfort operating in an advisory role, preparing recommendations for approval by a more senior leader.
- Familiarity with the NSW Cyber Security Policy, NSW procurement rules or whole-of-government ICT schemes, and experience in a cultural, research or collections-based organisation, will be highly regarded.
