The opportunity
An iconic Australian tourism organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join its corporate finance function. This role is well suited to a technically strong accountant who enjoys owning month-end close, maintaining balance sheet integrity, and working in a high-volume transaction environment supporting complex, multi-site operations.
Based in Sydney, you will work closely with both finance and operational stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting.
It is an initial 2-month temporary contract but the position could extend or convert for the right person.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and deliver end-to-end month-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are consistently met
- Prepare, review and post month-end journals, including inventory, cost of sales, opex, accruals and prepayments
- Perform detailed monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances
- Manage and review large volumes of transaction data from multiple operational and financial systems
- Review weekly bank journals and liaise with operational teams to resolve discrepancies
- Maintain a strong control environment and support internal governance requirements
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of supporting schedules and reconciliations
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Identify opportunities to improve month-end processes, reconciliations and reporting efficiency
- Provide guidance and support to junior finance team members as required
About you
You are a detail-driven finance professional who takes ownership of outcomes and is confident working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. You are comfortable dealing with complexity and pride yourself on producing clean, accurate balance sheets.
You will bring:
- CA or CPA qualification
- 5+ years’ experience in financial accounting or similar month-end focused roles
- Strong hands-on experience with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations
- Exposure to high-volume transaction environments(multi-entity or operationally complex preferred)
- Advanced Excel capability and confidence working with large data sets
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail
- Clear communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with non-finance stakeholders
- Experience in hospitality, tourism, retail or other operationally intensive industries (advantageous)
