About the client
Our client is a highly regarded, member based professional organisation representing the legal profession in New South Wales. With a long standing reputation for integrity and public service, the organisation supports its members and the broader profession through advocacy, governance and high quality legal and administrative services. It is known for offering a stable, collegiate environment with a level of culture and work life balance that is difficult to find in private practice.
About the role
This is an opportunity for an experienced career paralegal to join a well established in-house Corporate Legal Services and Secretariat team. You will provide paralegal and administrative support across commercial, compliance and governance matters, working closely with in-house solicitors and senior stakeholders. You will also supervise and mentor a junior paralegal, taking on a genuine leadership component within the team. This role suits someone who wants to continue building deep expertise as a paralegal, rather than use the position as a stepping stone toward admission as a lawyer.
Duties
- Coordinate day to day administration of legal matters, including file management, correspondence, document preparation and records management.
- Assist in house solicitors with legal research, briefing materials, reports and draft advice.
- Manage the department's contract administration processes, including monitoring key obligations and renewal dates.
- Manage trademark, business name and other intellectual property registrations and renewals in line with applicable deadlines.
- Supervise, mentor and develop a paralegal, including allocating work, coaching and providing performance feedback.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or equivalent, within a law firm, in house legal team, regulatory body or government agency.
- Relevant qualification in Paralegal Studies, Legal Services, Business Administration or a related discipline, or an undergraduate degree in any field.
- Demonstrated experience supporting lawyers and senior stakeholders in a busy legal environment, including document management, legal administration and matter coordination.
- Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
- This role is intended for an experienced career paralegal. It is not suitable for a current law student, Practical Legal Training student or recent law graduate seeking supervised legal practice or admission as an Australian lawyer.
How to apply
If you are an experienced paralegal looking to build a long term career in a supportive, prestigious in-house environment, we would love to hear from you.
