Position: Work Health and Safety Officer
Reports to: Senior Leadership Team
Must have experience working within the education sector.
We are working with a leading independent school in Sydney that is committed to excellence in education and the wellbeing of its students and staff. The school fosters a dynamic learning environment while upholding the highest standards of governance, compliance, and Work Health and Safety (WHS).
This is a key role supporting the Executive to ensure effective management of risk, compliance and WHS across the organisation, while promoting a strong culture of safety and accountability.
Experience working in a child-related environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the organisation’s WHS, risk and compliance frameworks, ensuring alignment with strategic and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement and maintain risk management systems tailored to the education sector.
- Ensure compliance with child protection legislation, Working With Children Checks, duty of care obligations and student welfare standards.
- Coordinate WHS initiatives including hazard assessments, incident reporting, emergency preparedness and training.
- Support risk assessments for events, excursions, tours and co-curricular activities.
- Monitor compliance with curriculum standards, privacy obligations and records management requirements.
- Assist with regulatory reporting to education authorities, accreditation bodies and governing boards.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on WHS, policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Support regular compliance audits and reviews across school operations.
Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar WHS / risk and compliance role within a school or education environment(essential).
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, child protection, and education-specific compliance requirements.
- Qualifications in WHS, law, business or a related discipline preferred.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organisation.
- Experience with CompliSpace or similar platforms advantageous.
